Despite the best efforts of Totodile and Poliwhirl to stop Team Rocket's abduction of the strange Pokémon, they did not succeed. Unfortunately for Tyson, Ash and his friends had returned to assist the Gyarados. He was determined to keep them from leaving the lake with knowledge of Team Rocket's plans, but his assault was thwarted by Lance and his Dragonite.ĭespite Lance's intrusion, Tyson carried on with his plans and caught the Gyarados in the Lake of Rage with the help of Jessie, James, and Meowth, whom he had ordered to lure the Gyarados from the lake's depths. When Ash, Misty, and Brock arrived at the Lake of Rage, Tyson attacked them due to their sighting of the Gyarados. This experiment led to the forced evolution of a Magikarp into a Red Gyarados, thus causing the events of Talkin' 'Bout an Evolution and Rage of Innocence.
